IIS Smooth Streaming / Adaptive BitRate Streaming (ABR)

  • Is a technique/method of video streaming over HTTP.
  • Works by detecting your local bandwidth and PC capacity (CPU, memory and display) and seamlessly switching, in near real time, the video quality of the media file you are viewing.
  • The result: Users with high-bandwidth connections can experience high definition (HD) quality streaming while others with lower bandwidth speeds receive the appropriate stream for their connectivity, allowing users across the board to enjoy a compelling, uninterrupted streaming experience.
  • Adaptive bitrate streaming works by detecting a user’s bandwidth and CPU capacity in real time and adjusting the quality of a video stream accordingly.  Med World Live encodes each stream into multiple bit rates: 475 kbps, 974 kbps, 1799 kbps and 3500 kbps.  The streaming client is made aware of the available streams at differing bit rates, and segments of the streams by a manifest file. When starting, the client requests the segments from the lowest bit rate stream. If the client finds the download speed is greater than the bit rate of the segment downloaded, then it will request the next higher bit rate segments. Later, if the client finds the download speed for a segment is lower than the bit rate for the segment, and therefore the network throughput has deteriorated, then it will request a lower bit rate segment.  So in short – your streaming viewing experience will depend on your PC’s capacity and your internet connection.

HD Experience

  • When you log in, the portal defaults to the regular viewing panel.
  • Click the “expand” button on the lower right portal task bar to expand the current camera angle and achieve a larger more defined video stream.
  • Click the “Toggle Full Screen” button on the lower right portal task bar to expand to full screen mode and achieve a full HD viewing experience.
  • If you choose to go into split screen mode, always click the "Toggle Full Screen" button to achieve maximum bandwidth and full HD viewing.
